Does Typography Standard replace WCAG testing?

No. Typography Standard evaluates font files against TS 2.0. WCAG evaluates digital experiences that use those fonts, including size, zoom, and color contrast.

What is the Il1 rule?

The Il1 rule checks whether capital I, lowercase l, and digit 1 are visually distinct. Typography Standard treats this as a mandatory ambiguity gate (TS2-AMB-001).

Is a Typography Standard certificate a legal accessibility guarantee?

No. Reports and certificates record the outcome of a defined font-file test. They are not legal advice and do not certify WCAG, ADA, or Section 508 compliance of a website or product.

1. Acceptance of terms

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern access to and use of typographystandard.org and related services (the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.

2. What the Service is

Typography Standard provides automated and informational analysis of font files against Typography Standard criteria (for example legibility, character coverage, and technical quality). The Service may also provide educational content about typography and accessibility.

The Service evaluates font files. It does not audit websites, apps, documents, or products for WCAG, ADA, Section 508, or any other accessibility standard.

3. Not legal advice; no compliance guarantee

Nothing on this site is legal advice. Reports, scores, methodology text, badges, and certificates are informational tools only. They do not constitute:

A legal opinion or attorney-client relationship
Certification that a website, app, or product meets WCAG, ADA, Section 508, or any law
A guarantee that you will avoid lawsuits, complaints, audits, or regulatory action
Advice that a particular font is safe or appropriate for any specific use case

We do not warrant that analysis results will be complete, error-free, uninterrupted, or suitable for any particular purpose, or that defects will be corrected.

5. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, TYPOGRAPHY STANDARD AND ITS OPERATORS, OWNERS, AFFILIATES, CONTRACTORS, AND SUPPLIERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE, ANY REPORT, SCORE, BADGE, CERTIFICATE, OR CONTENT, WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

Without limiting the foregoing, Typography Standard and its operators shall not be liable for damages arising from incorrect or incomplete analysis; reliance on a report, score, badge, or certificate; accessibility claims or regulatory actions; font licensing disputes; business interruption; or decisions made by you or third parties based on Service output.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SPECIFIC PAID FEATURE GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (USD $100).

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Typography Standard and its operators from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your reliance on any report, score, badge, or certificate; (c) fonts or files you upload; (d) your violation of these Terms or of any law; or (e) any claim that your use of a font infringes third-party rights.

7. Uploads, licensing, and privacy of files

You represent that you have the right to upload and analyze any font file you submit. You remain solely responsible for complying with font licenses and third-party rights. Do not upload files you are not authorized to use. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle data.

8. Reports, badges, and certificates

Paid reports and certificates document the output of our automated process at a point in time. They may be revoked, corrected, or updated. Displaying a badge or certificate does not create any warranty, endorsement, or legal clearance. Misrepresenting results (for example claiming WCAG or ADA website certification based solely on a Typography Standard report) is prohibited.

9. Changes

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. The “last updated” date below reflects the latest revision.
